Here are some of my "aha" moments captured in the sixth week.
Quote: “No
greater goal could be set, no greater progress could be made, and no greater
joy and satisfaction could be experienced than to determine that we will accept
Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world, and live his teachings.” (Success Is Gauged by Self-Mastery- N. Eldon
Tanner)
Quote: “And da Vinci once said: ‘You will never have a greater or lesser dominion than that over yourself.” Then he goes on to say that “the height of a man’s success is gauged by his self-mastery; the depth of his failure by his self-abandonment. … And this law is the expression of eternal justice. He who cannot establish dominion over himself will have no dominion over others.’ In other words, he cannot be a worthy father or leader.” (Success Is Gauged by Self-Mastery- N. Eldon Tanner)
Quote: “Remember also that nature never pays an unearned account and she never fails to pay one that has been earned. If you wish to achieve financial success, if you wish to be happy, if you wish to be healthy, if you would be morally clean, if you wish to find religious peace of mind, there is only one sure way, and that is the straight and narrow path—the way of honor, the way of industry, of moderation, simplicity, and virtue.” (Success Is Gauged by Self-Mastery- N. Eldon Tanner)
Quote: “The world is too competitive to start a business without a deep understanding of your industry. This knowledge falls into two general categories: the competitive structure of the industry and personal contacts with trusted experts.” (So You Want To Be An Entrepreneur?- Acton Foundation)
Quote: “Understanding daily operations are a must for entrepreneurs. Daily operations include many issues, from accounting, production, organizational and administrative dilemmas to general business philosophy. All of these must be woven into a consistent set of principles and procedures. If the company culture is flawed, almost any strategy is in jeopardy” (So You Want To Be An Entrepreneur?- Acton Foundation)
Quote: “There are two ways to acquire the skills above: learn them yourself or find a partner who already has them. The successful entrepreneur generally does both.” (So You Want To Be An Entrepreneur?- Acton Foundation)
Quote: “You gotta make rules or the start ups will take over your life.” (The Entrepreneur and the Family- Steve Blank)
Quote: “By far the most valuable thing we have is time.” (Three Lessons About What It Means to Be an Entrepreneur- Wences Casares)
Quote: “I think that the way in which we create the most value is by doing the same thing for a very long time, by sticking with it, by growing with it, by changing with it, by taking it to the next stage…” (Three Lessons About What It Means to Be an Entrepreneur- Wences Casares)
Quote: “There are a couple of things you can never compromise on. That is your loyalty to the Lord, your family and your spouse.” (Loyalty to God and Family- Jan Newman)
Quote: “Never be afraid to take a calling… (if not) when you need the Lord’s help, He will know where your heart is and it is not on His side.” (Loyalty to God and Family- Jan Newman)
Thoughts: The concept that stood out to me this week was that of self-mastery through the straight and narrow path. Wences Casares said "the most valuable thing we have is time". I really liked how Jan Newman pointed out that we cannot afford to short change the Lord. The most valuable place we can spend our time is in the Lord's service. Staying on the straight and narrow path, that the Lord has set up for us, is how we reach success. Success in our careers, our families, in every aspect of our life. We need the Lord on our side. We cannot achieve self-mastery without His help. I want to do all I can so there is no doubt who's side I am on.
