Here are some of my "aha" moments captured in the fifth week.
Quote:“Sure,
luck played a part,” the junk dealer said. “But you asked about success. Luck
is the difference between making a million dollars and ten million or a hundred
million. It’s not the difference between success and failure. Each of us was
going to be a success; it was just a matter of how long it took.” (Are
Successful Entrepreneurs born or made?- Jeff Sandefer)
Quote:“The most difficult task for most businesses is attracting the right customers, employees and investors. Doing things right and doing the right thing build strong relationships. So does being honest and direct. And going the extra mile. Strong relationships, through word of mouth, build reputation.” (Are Successful Entrepreneurs born or made?- Jeff Sandefer)
Quote: “So in the end, what made them different from others who hadn’t been as successful and fulfilled? They had stayed the course. Day after day; year after year.” (Are Successful Entrepreneurs born or made?- Jeff Sandefer)
Quote:“What are my values, what do I care about? The horizon is always outside of your grasp. Pick a direction.” (How Do You Find Your Passion and How Do You Pursue It? – Randy Komisar)
Quote: “Live your life as if every moment matters, because it does. Live as if you have an important mission, because you do. See struggles as adventures. What matters most is not the prize at the end but how the hero is changed in the process.” (A Hero’s Journey- N. Eldon Tanner)
Quote:“Learn how to learn. Learn to make money. Learn how to live a life of meaning.” (A Hero’s Journey- N. Eldon Tanner)
Quote:“At the end of life only three questions matter. Have I contributed something meaningful? Am I a good person? Who have I loved and who has loved me?” (A Hero’s Journey- N. Eldon Tanner)
Quote:“Ask five people you know well what you do better than anyone else in the world. Press for specifics and examples and evidence. If you are like most people you will be surprised to find.”
Quote: “A calling must serve others. It must matter to you.” (A Hero’s Journey- N. Eldon Tanner)
Quote:“Choose your fellow travelers well. You only make the journey once.” (A Hero’s Journey- N. Eldon Tanner)
Quote:“You will come to be like the people that surround you.” (A Hero’s Journey- N. Eldon Tanner)
Quote:“Being rich is spending less than you make.” (A Hero’s Journey- N. Eldon Tanner)
Quote:“If you don’t choose a hero’s journey then who will?” (A Hero’s Journey- N. Eldon Tanner)
Thoughts: I liked the idea we were given this week of the hero's journey. You are the hero of your own life journey. So what kind of hero do you want to be? Who do you want to be a hero to? "You only make the journey once" (Tanner). In storybooks and comics the hero will usually have some sort of strength or power they learn how to master. I feel like this is the purpose of this course. It is helping us identify our own super strength or power. We are being asked to define the hero within us and then make a plan to become that hero. This week I added to my hero's qualities: build strong relationships, stay the course, your calling must matter to you, choose your fellow travelers well, see struggles as adventures and live life as if every moment matters.
